If ‘Wild Children’ is influenced by early Morrison, late Mazzucchelli & Godard & Alan Moore & Bey & music of people like Fuck Buttons+Coil, then ‘Change’ is more Jodorowsky, Tony Scott, Michel Gondry, Chris Ware, Lynne Ramsay, Richard Kelly, music of Purity Ring, My Bloody Valentine, Animal Collective.

My own live-reading review of Change.
There are definitely some spoilers under the cut.

p 1-7
Wow Sonia’s descriptive writing is so idiosyncratic but it works in a beautiful but still kind of awkward way. It suits her. And also really wondering what’s up with her whole Rorschach-esque visage?
Finding out that this comic has, and will be having, some really heavy interlaced space plots. Plus rep.
Obviously I knew that the art was going to be really, really good. And it’s definitely lived up to my expectations so far. Wallace’s and Sonia’s meeting. The blood orange. The city lookout with a blue and yellow gradient sky. All good things.
 p 8-13
Oh there’s the word idiosyncratic…Kot and I must be on the same level.
A Chris Brown reference I approve of. Sonia likes W2(Wallace) apparently so she may have written that ex-girlfriend murder script out of jealousy.
What are these names? Labia? Rhubarb? Same.
Oh there’s a reference to the title Change as well as Jack Nicholson.  Also they’re making jokes about old people sex and it’s making both Sonia and I pretty uncomfortable. “It’s called Tantra”.
Amazing space drawings as seen from spaceship (dun dun Dun)
p 14-20
Really neat imagery for the sound effects of that fly. Now we meet two new characters in vans being very normal average weird guys despite the fact that they are killers.
Found out why Sonia has “facial cammo” and also how important she is to the story now… I have so many questions. Like what the fuck that ancient baby thing is about.
Whoaaaaaa things just got crazy up in here! Daggers and broken panels and I just…
…what an odd turn of events…
Alright so a man tries to kill Sonia, which has been planned out already i’m assuming because the weird dudes in the van are in on that. But then something?? happens and that guy dies instead from some sort of ghost man that maybe is related to Sonia. Is Sonia telepathic and is controlling ghost guys actions? I’m confused about this.
Conversely W2 and Rhubarb are being home invaded. They manage to get away but the problem’s not resolved-they can’t get no backup.
What the hell is in that ocean?!
This was kind of fun and the results are hilarious to me - I sound like such an idiot but this was more or less what I was thinking about while reading Change. I hope someone else was on the same track as me!

This is about a year late, but I’m still excited for it. I love the way that Hickman’s books look
